Back in the '90s, a phrase commonly heard around the remote sensing lab was, "Windows 98 = Mac '84", often following the crash of a PC halfway through some simple task. As with computers, woodworking workbenches were figured out long before Chris Schwarz starting blogging about them (the oldest workbench known is from 50 A.D.). But unlike the PC, Schwarz has managed to improve greatly on the early designs. Today, there are 100 videos on YouTube showing how to build a Split-top Roubo, a design singlehandedly revived by Schwarz. But nearly everything Schwarz does today, Roy did 20 years ago. Except for that hideous "Kentucky aumbry" (Popular Woodworking, 2014). That thing is a pignut.
